EDITORIAL – Rest in peace, Bushy Maape.

Kaobitsa “Bushy” Maape was more than a former Premier, freedom fighter, and public servant — he was a proud son of Vryburg whose life reflected resilience, discipline, and service to the people.

From the days of the liberation struggle to the halls of government, Bushy Maape carried with him the hopes of many communities across the North West. His contribution to education, youth empowerment, governance, and service delivery leaves behind a legacy that will not easily be forgotten.

As The Vryburg Independent Post, we join the people of Vryburg, the North West Province, and the nation in mourning the passing of a leader who remained deeply connected to his roots and committed to the upliftment of ordinary citizens.

His story serves as a reminder that even from small towns come leaders capable of shaping history and inspiring generations.

May his legacy continue to guide those who lead, serve, and dream of a better South Africa.

Rest in peace, Bushy Maape.

A Vryburger. A freedom fighter. A servant of the people.
