Police have opened a case of culpable homicide and reckless and/or negligent driving after a 34-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle crash on the N14 in Vryburg early Saturday, 25 October 2025.

According to SAPS provincial spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the Volkswagen Polo in which the deceased was a driver* overturned at about 06:00. The passenger* , also a woman, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital. An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the crash, he said.

Unconfirmed posts on community social-media pages allege the occupants might have been returning from post event festivities around Vryburg, following SADTU’s World Teachers’ Day provincial celebration held at Colridge Stadium on Friday. At this stage, that link has not been verified. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved.
