VRYBURG — Friday, 24 October 2025. Naledi Local Municipality has issued a public alert warning residents about a scammer posing as a municipal employee and demanding cash payments at homes and businesses for electricity and other alleged arrears.
In a notice signed by Municipal Manager, Mr Modisenyane Thompson Segapo, the municipality said the individual has been using the names of real officials to appear legitimate and, in some cases, threatening that electricity will be cut if payment is not made immediately.
“Do not pay anyone in cash at your home,” the municipality cautioned. “All legitimate payments to the municipality must be made only at official municipal offices, through card payments, or via EFT (on verified official Municipality Banking Details).”
CCTV stills shared on the municipality’s Facebook page show the suspect’s face obscured. The post states the suspect is known and that authorities are already investigating. The Vryburg Independent Post Team (The VIP Team) has generated an Ai version of the stills, with the assistance of our photography and graphic design team from Jus4tos Photography & Graphics Project, to assist our readers to have a clearer view. Be that as it may, the municipality the face of the suspect remains hidden.
