Senior leaders of the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West visited the Maape family in Vryburg on Monday, 18 May 2026, following the passing of former North West Premier and liberation struggle veteran, Cde. Kaobitsa “Bushy” Maape.
The visit was led by the ANC North West Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), with all five provincial executive officials present to convey condolences and support to the bereaved family during their time of mourning.
In a statement, the ANC described Maape as a committed servant of the people whose contribution to the liberation struggle and development of the province would remain part of the movement’s history and legacy.

Provincial Chairperson Cde. Dumile Patrick “Nono” Maloyi also reflected on the life and times of the former premier, paying tribute to his role as a struggle stalwart, public servant, and leader who dedicated his life to the advancement of democracy and the people of the North West.
The ANC further expressed hope that the Maape family would find strength and comfort during the difficult period of bereavement, reaffirming that the organisation continues to stand with the family in mourning the loss of one of its dedicated cadres.
Maape passed away on Saturday, 16 May 2026, after a short illness. He served as Premier of the North West Province and held several leadership roles in government and the ANC throughout his political career. Bra Bushy’s funeral will be held on Saturday, 23 May 2026, in Vryburg.
