VRYBURG — Residents in and around Vryburg reported widespread storm-related disruptions on Sunday, 4 January 2026, with streets flooded, electricity complaints and fallen infrastructure following rainfall in the area.

Images and community posts circulating on social media show standing water across residential roads, a utility pole lying across a street, and another pole down near a fence line, raising safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians. One resident’s post referenced Extension 25, alleging that multiple poles fell in the same street.

At this stage, it is unclear how many areas are affected or whether any outages have been formally logged, as no official update had been issued at the time of publishing. The Vryburg Independent Post has requested comment from the relevant authorities.
Public safety: Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, do not approach fallen poles or suspected live cables, and report hazards to local authorities. In emergencies, contact SAPS (10111) or EMS (10177).
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
