The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an Orange Level 5 impact-based warning for severe thunderstorms expected over the eastern parts of the North West, with possible flooding of susceptible roads, settlements and low-lying bridges/areas, as well as damage to infrastructure due to heavy downpours and strong, damaging winds.

A Yellow Level 2 warning has also been issued for western parts of the North West, where thunderstorms may lead to localised flooding and localised infrastructure damage.
In its regional outlook for today, SAWS said the North West can expect fog patches in the east early on, followed by cloudy, windy and warm-to-hot conditions with widespread showers and thundershowers, though these may be more scattered in the extreme west.
Motorists and residents are urged to remain alert, avoid flooded roads and low-lying crossings, and keep monitoring official weather updates as conditions may change rapidly.
