VRYBURG/HUHUDI — An eight-year-old girl is reported to have died following a drowning incident during the storm in Huhudi, as severe rainfall continues to cause flooding and disruption in parts of Vryburg.

Residents told The Vryburg Independent Post that a forensic services vehicle was seen in the  area, where the child’s remains were collected. Community members living nearby claim the girl was trying to cross a flooded section of the road when the incident happened.

At the time of publishing, official confirmation and full details from authorities had not yet been issued. This article will be updated once statements are received from SAPS, EMS, or local authorities.

With waterlogged streets and fast-moving runoff reported in several areas, residents are urged to:

• Keep children away from flooded roads, open drains and streams

• Avoid crossing flooded streets, even on foot
