THE NORTH WEST PROVINCE TO HOST THE 2019 NATIONAL ARCHIVES AWARENESS LAUNCH

The North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation will on the 15th July 2019 host the Annual National Archives Awareness Week (ANAAW) in Mahikeng.
National Archives Week which is celebrated annually in South Africa seeks to create awareness and promote the archives in communities. The National Archives and Records Services, led by the National Department of Arts and Culture invited the Provincial Department to co-host the 2019 awareness week in promoting the importance of good record keeping practices and allow members of the public to access archival buildings and learn about records and archival functions and services.
Focus will also be on how the Province has progressed to collect oral history to close gap in the historical records preserved by the Provincial Archives.
This year’s theme is “Archival Footprints: the relevance of archives 25 years into democracy”.
The Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Ms. Nocawe Noncedo Mafu together with MEC for the North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation in the North West Ms Galebekwe Virginia Tlhapi will officiate the official opening of the ANAAW which will further unfold in all Districts within the Province.

The 5 day Programme of the ANAAW will make a stop in Ipeleng Community Hall, in Schweizer-Reneke on Wednesday, 17th July 2019.
