Vryburg, 15 Oct 2025 — The Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati education district has set an ambitious target for this year’s matrics, with District Director Mojakhumo Dithejane telling learners that a 90% pass rate is achievable based on the district’s mid-year analysis.
Speaking at a multi-denominational Matric Prayer Day hosted at Vryburg High School on Wednesday, Dithejane said the gathering’s purpose was to give the Class of 2025 “a moment to reflect on the journey from Grade RR to Grade 12” and to approach next week’s National Senior Certificate examinations “with optimism and expectation.”

“The class of 2025 has demonstrated, with substantial evidence from the mid-year results analysis, that a 90% pass rate is achievable,” she said. “We are gathered to pray for examinations free of irregularities—no cheating, no paper security breaches, no registration anomalies, and no protest-related disruptions.”
Dithejane placed equal emphasis on learner wellbeing, asking clergy, parents and schools to continue shielding candidates from social ills that can derail performance, including substance abuse, gangsterism, sexual abuse, mental-health pressures, depression and teenage pregnancy.
Addressing the 250 learners in attendance, she offered simple, practical advice for the final stretch:
“Have confidence in yourselves, maintain composure, and trust your skills. You are capable of success. From this point forward, we are transitioning you into tertiary-ready candidates.”
The prayer day—attended by the District Mayor, Speaker, traditional leaders, QLTC members, 87 secondary school principals, SGBs, sister departments, clergy and community representatives—featured an intercession led by Dr G. Malebe with pastors from various churches praying for exam integrity and learner safety.
While the programme included a keynote by District Executive Mayor Cllr Motseokae Maje encouraging applications to the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati bursary—particularly for high-achievers from low-income homes—the day’s central message came from Dithejane: focus, integrity and faith, backed by hard data and community support, can carry the Class of 2025 over the line when exams commence on Tuesday, 23 October.
