3 Men Sentenced to 38 Years for Rape Cases in Ganyesa Area

GANYESA – The Trio convicted of rape in separate incidents that occurred in Ganyesa, Phaposane and Tlakgameng villages have been sentenced to a combined 38 years’ imprisonment by the Ganyesa Regional Court, on Thursday, 11 June 2026

The convictions follow investigations conducted by the Vryburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, which successfully secured the prosecution of the accused in three separate cases involving women and children.

According to the statement issued by the South Africa Police Services in the North West Province, on Friday, 12 June 2026; in the first case, 29-year-old Pako Mahokomabe was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for raping a 16-year-old girl in Ganyesa in March 2019.

In the second matter, Onkemetse Koos Thembisa (38) was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for the rape of a 43-year-old woman in Phaposane Village in July 2022.

The third accused, Baleseng Kakgola (28), received a 10-year prison sentence for raping a 17-year-old girl in Tlakgameng Village in March 2024.

Acting North West Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, commended the investigating officers and the National Prosecuting Authority for their efforts in securing the convictions. He said the sentences send a strong message that perpetrators of gender-based violence and sexual offences will be brought to justice.

The three sentences amount to a combined 38 years behind bars for the convicted offenders.
