VRYBURG – A 22-year-old woman appeared before the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 May 2026, in connection with the alleged murder of her boyfriend in Vryburg.

According to SAPS in the Dr. RSM District, officers responded to a complaint of assault during the early hours of Sunday, 10 May 2026, at the Railway Houses in Vryburg.

Information provided at the scene allegedly indicated that the victim had been assaulted by his girlfriend following an argument between the couple.

Emergency Medical Services declared the 29-year-old man dead at the scene.

Police subsequently opened a murder case for investigation and arrested the suspect, identified as Caylin Barends.

Barends made her first court appearance on Monday and was remanded in custody. The matter was postponed to Tuesday, 19 May 2026, for a formal bail application.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
