In a profound demonstration of spiritual solidarity, the Mothers’ Union (MU) branch of St Stephen’s hosted a prayer service in Monoto informal settlement, on the outskirts of Colridge, on Monday 09 December 2024, as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The event brought together members of the local community in an atmosphere of reflection, hope, and commitment to ending GBV.
The prayer service, described by participants as a “heartfelt spiritual upliftment day,” centered on the belief that “Man proposes, and God disposes.” The MU branch emphasized the importance of seeking divine guidance in the fight against societal injustices, particularly those affecting women and children.

Attendees shared testimonies and prayers, reinforcing the message of resilience and hope for a violence-free community. The event also included scripture readings, hymns, and a collective pledge to uphold the values of peace, respect, and mutual support.
A representative from the MU branch expressed gratitude for the turnout, saying, “This service reminded us of the power of faith and unity in addressing the scourge of GBV. Together, as a community under God’s guidance, we can create a safer and more just society.”
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign that runs annually from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day). Events like the one led by St Stephen’s MU highlight the critical role of faith-based organizations in fostering awareness and advocating for change.
The St Stephen’s MU branch hopes their initiative will inspire others to take action and remain steadfast in their commitment to a violence-free society.
