Residents across the North West Province—particularly in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality—have been urged to prepare for unsettled weather conditions from Saturday night, 11 April 2026, into Sunday, 12 April 2026 with the South African Weather Service issuing a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms.
According to the latest forecast by Weather SA, cloudy conditions are expected to intensify across much of the province, with scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers developing overnight and continuing into Sunday. Areas such as Vryburg are expected to experience widespread rainfall and thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging between 16°C and 26°C.
The warning highlights the risk of severe storms over the western parts of the North West, including communities within the Dr RSM district. These storms may bring heavy downpours, strong winds, hail, and intense lightning, potentially leading to localised flooding, damage to infrastructure, and disruptions to transport routes.

Neighbouring regions, including parts of the Northern Cape and Free State, are also expected to experience similar weather patterns, increasing the likelihood of widespread storm activity across the central interior of the country.
In Mahikeng and surrounding areas, conditions are forecast to remain cloudy with scattered thunderstorms, while rainfall is expected to be more intense further west, affecting towns and rural communities alike.

Weather SA has cautioned residents—especially those in low-lying or flood-prone areas—to remain vigilant, avoid crossing flooded roads, and secure loose structures ahead of the storms. Farmers and livestock owners have also been advised to take precautionary measures.
The weather service further noted that these conditions are driven by an upper-air system influencing the central interior, creating favourable conditions for storm development.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated with official weather alerts as conditions may change rapidly over the weekend.
