Setswakgosing’s Temogo Matong set to be honoured among SA’s top matric achievers

MOROKWENG — Setswakgosing Secondary School learner Temogo Matong is set to take his place among South Africa’s top-performing matriculants as the Department of Basic Education officially releases the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) results on Monday evening, 12 January 2026.

The Department is expected to announce the national performance and recognise outstanding learners at an official event in Fairlands, Johannesburg, following a technical briefing earlier in the afternoon.

Setswakgosing Secondary School, based in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district, congratulated Matong in a social media post, celebrating him as being “among the national top achievers” for the Class of 2025.

Matong’s journey has been strengthened through the Mochwanaesi Foundation, which supporters say allocated him a mentor and subject advisors. The support structure helped him openly discuss academic challenges, receive guidance, and remain focused on the goals he set for himself.

Speaking on the importance of support systems for learners, community education advocates say Matong’s achievement highlights what consistent mentorship, discipline and access to subject support can unlock—especially for rural and township schools.

The Basic Education Minister is expected to outline national trends and the overall performance of the Class of 2025 during the evening announcement.
