NW Province Government Proactively Rolls Out Mass Screenings and Mobile Testing to Districts

Minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize’s announcement of 70 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa, on Sunday, 05 April 2020, did not change The North West Province’s statistics since the last report. The Province remain with 11 confirmed cases, as the country rises to 1655.

The North West Province’s Department of Health has reported on the District spread of the virus, with great focus on the 2 new cases that were reported on Saturday, 04 April 2020. One case of which is the first in Klerksdorp, and the other, an increase to the Bojanala Platinum District, affirming the district as the epicenter of the pandemic in the Province.

The Premier of the North West Province, Professor Job Mokgoro, is expected to roll out, on Monday, 06 April 2020, mass screening and mobile test across the province, until Thursday, 09 April 2020. According to the Premier, 5 Mobile Clinics allocated to the Province, one for each District and one Provincial. One available for Bojanala from the 06 April 2020. The rest will be delivered by the end of April. Premier Mokgoro’s first stop will be in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, in Motswedi village near Zeerust…

Mine hospitals in the Matlosana Municipality have been earmarked by the Provincial Health Department as facilities that will host overflows from the Tshepong/Klerksdorp Hospital, which is currently the only designated hospital for attending to COVID19 cases in the North West Province.

There is still no deaths reported in the North West Province but Nationally, the death toll has risen to now 11 people. “We convey our condolences to the family of the deceased and thank the health workers who were treating these deceased patients.” Said Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize.
