MAHIKENG – The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Dr. Desbo Mohono, has officially welcomed Hon. Amogelang Jeannette Matuane as a new Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) representing the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

Hon. Matuane fills the vacancy created following the passing of the late Hon. Modiegi Dikolomela on 2 February 2026.

The EFF nominated Hon. Matuane, who hails from Taung and previously served as a Ward Councillor at the Greater Taung Local Municipality, to take up the position in the provincial legislature.

In accordance with Section 107 of the Constitution, a Member of the Legislature may only begin performing their duties after swearing or affirming faithfulness to the Republic and obedience to the Constitution, as set out in Schedule 2.

Dr. Mohono expressed confidence in the new MPL, stating that Hon. Matuane will contribute meaningfully to the Legislature’s three core mandates: oversight, law-making and public participation.

“We welcome her as our Member as we believe that she will work hard on fulfilling the work of different Portfolio and Select Committees of the Legislature,” said Dr. Mohono.

The Speaker also paid tribute to the late Hon. Dikolomela, acknowledging her significant contributions in committees such as Agriculture and Economic Development, as well as the Multiparty Women’s Caucus.

Hon. Matuane’s appointment marks a continuation of the EFF’s representation in the North West Provincial Legislature as the institution carries forward its legislative and oversight responsibilities.
