MRM Condemns Killing of North West Activist Thato Molosankwe

The Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) in the North West has expressed shock and sadness following the killing of community activist Thato Senganga Molosankwe, who was reportedly shot multiple times at his business premises in Lomanyaneng village near Mahikeng during the early hours of Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

In a media statement, MRM Provincial Convenor Lesiba Kgwele condemned the incident and called on police to intensify investigations until those responsible are brought to justice.

“We are saddened by this heart-wrenching incident and wish to convey our deepest condolences to the Molosankwe family, the local business sector, the men’s sector he served with passion, and the broader Mahikeng community,” Kgwele said.

The organisation appealed for calm and urged community members to cooperate with investigators from the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit assigned to the case.

MRM also raised concern over the recent rise in violent crimes targeting businesspeople in Mahikeng, referencing the recent murder of local couple Manuel and Maria Gomez.

According to the organisation, Molosankwe was widely recognised for his activism on crime, gender-based violence, and social justice issues. He played a visible role during the July 2021 unrest under the #NOTINOURTOWN campaign, mobilising support to protect local businesses.

He was also known for awareness initiatives such as the #FatherSonMentorshipWalk, which covered over 1 300 kilometres from Cape Town to Mahikeng to raise awareness against the abuse of women and children, as well as campaigns promoting moral regeneration, anti-crime activism, and peace-building across Africa.

Police investigations into the killing are ongoing, and no arrests had been announced at the time of publication.
