Magalies Water Reassures Taung Residents After Discoloured Tap Water Reported

TAUNG – Magalies Water has assured residents that the discoloured water currently flowing from taps in parts of Taung is safe for human consumption, despite concerns raised by community members.

In an urgent notice issued on Thursday, 2 July 2026, the water utility acknowledged reports of discoloured tap water across the Taung Water Supply System and said technical teams are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

The affected areas include Nommer 1, Randstad, Nhole, Chief’s Court, Ditshilong, Veertien, Rick Block, Lokaleng, Khibicwane, Cokonyane, Pinagare, Extensions 4, 6 and 7, Taung Station, Rooival, Matolong and Itireleng.

While the cause of the discolouration is being addressed, Magalies Water has encouraged residents to use water sparingly and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

The utility emphasised that, despite the change in colour, the water remains safe to drink, and further updates will be provided as work continues to restore normal water quality.
