ANC NEC member and Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Kenny Morolong, together with North West Premier and ANC Provincial Deputy Chairperson, Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi, conducted a preliminary site inspection at the Huhudi Sports Facility in Vryburg on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

The inspection was carried out ahead of the official funeral service of former North West Premier and struggle veteran, Kaobitsa Bushy Maape, scheduled to take place on Saturday.

According to officials, the visit formed part of ongoing preparations to assess the readiness of the venue and review logistical arrangements for the funeral proceedings.

Provincial and local government leadership, together with relevant stakeholders, continue to coordinate preparations to ensure that the funeral is conducted in a dignified and organised manner in honour of the late former premier.

Maape passed away on Saturday, 16 May 2026, following a short illness. His funeral has since been declared a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category 1 by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
