Eskom has announced the implementation of Stage 3 loadshedding from 14:00 today (March 8, 2025), continuing until Monday, March 10 at 05:00. The decision follows a loss of 2700MW over the past 14 hours due to technical challenges affecting Koeberg Unit 2 and two Kusile Units.
This measure is necessary to replenish emergency reserves over the weekend to ensure the stability of the grid ahead of the upcoming business week. High levels of planned maintenance are ongoing as part of Eskom’s winter preparation efforts.

Eskom’s Response to Loadshedding Challenges
Eskom has acknowledged that the constrained capacity has led to an increased reliance on emergency reserves. The power utility is currently working on restoring 6200MW by Monday evening to stabilize supply.
Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane, reassured the public that despite this setback, the power utility remains committed to reducing loadshedding over time.
“We maintain our guidance that loadshedding is largely behind us due to structural improvements in the generation fleet. While baseload capacity remains constrained, our generation recovery plan is addressing these challenges.”
Eskom has urged residents to use electricity sparingly during this period and has assured that updates will be provided as necessary.
