CHIEF JUSTICE MOGOENG MOGOENG TAKING US WAY BACK “WHEN ROCKS WERE STILL SOFT” AT TEDx Mahikeng

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng was amongst the speakers at the inaugural TEDx Mahikeng at the North West University. With an effort to respond to the themed questions, How do we find ourselves here ? And where shall we go? The following are idea that he shared with guests at the event:

We need to deal with practical issues that we have turned a blind eye on.

We need to be united in doing the right things

We need to go back to the basics

We need to reflect o the values that made our elders to be who they are

Concepts such as Mafisa, where when a certain member of the community was not well off and would be assisted be other members of the community to put that particular in the better state as a well respected member of the community by sharing of each other’s wealth .

Social cohesion in general- communities used to build houses and schools for each other and for themselves.

We don’t want to offend , therefore we just mind our own business , and the results is where we are today.

We need to take reference to back when the rocks were still soft . When it took a village or a community to raise a child, and every elder was your parent , when respect was the order of the day. Back then when botho was taught at home and obedience to lawful authority as the order of the day.

Chief Justice Mogoeng’s was a fairly straightforward one , but made great impact to thought your heard it . Mogoeng’s talk was followed by a well deserved applause and standing ovation.
