VRYBURG/KURUMAN – 24 June 2025

In a significant development that may be linked to the recent murder of Katlego Moribe, police have arrested three suspects believed to be involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on 1 June 2025 in Seoding Block A, Kuruman.

The arrests are reported have been were made during a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation between police units from the Northern Cape and North West provinces. The joint operation was carried out in Ganyesa on the night of 23 June and into the early hours of 24 June 2025, and led to the arrest of three male suspects aged 28, 32, and 33. Illegal firearms and ammunition were also recovered from the suspects’ possession.

While police have not officially confirmed the connection, sources close to the investigation suggest that ballistics and intelligence reports may link the firearms seized in this operation to multiple violent incidents across both provinces — including the high-profile killing of Katlego Moribe, who was gunned down in broad daylight in front of his home in Kuruman earlier this month.

The murder of Moribe, a well-known figure in the local business and community circles, sent shockwaves through the Vryburg community and drew calls for stronger policing and accountability. His funeral, held on Saturday , 14 June 2025, drew thousands of mourners and sparked social media campaigns calling for justice. 

Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, praised the swift action by interprovincial law enforcement teams.

The suspects are, reportedly, expected to appeared in court soon and remain in custody. Police say further investigations are underway and that more arrests could follow. Community members with information related to the Moribe case or any other related incidents are urged to come forward.

As the investigation continues to unfold, the arrests have sparked hope that justice for Katlego Moribe — and other victims of violent crime — may finally be within reach.
