Bojanala District – The Early Stage Epicenter of the Coronavirus in the NW Province

1380 cases is the recently announced national number, by the Minister of Health Dr. Zweli Mkhize on Wednesday, 01 April 2020. These are the increasing numbers of the people infected by the novel Coronavirus in South Africa.

Minister Mkhize in his report also went on to elaborate on the Provincial effect of the pandemic. He announced that the North West Province now has a total of 9 Coronavirus cases confirmed. That is 1 case more than the previous report. No deaths to the virus has been reported in the province.

According to the North West Province Department of Health, the Dr Ruth Segomutsi Mompati District has only 1 case, and that remains that of the 21 year old female from Bloemhof. Similarly, other districts such as Dr Kenneth Kaunda district as well as Ngaka Modiri Molema Districts each has one case confirmed. 6 of the confirmed case are from the Bojanala Platinum District, making this district an early stage epicenter of the virus in the North West Province.

Minister Mkhize also spoke to the intentions of his department to intensify and increase the number of tests that are done on a daily based. He said the would like to move away from 3000 per day to tens of thousands per day. His focus will be at hotspots where cases have already been identified.
