TAUNG – Executive Mayor of the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, Councillor Motseokae Maje, has officially, on Tuesday, 05 August 2026, handed over water trucks to four local municipalities in a move aimed at improving water service delivery across the district.

Each of the four beneficiary municipalities—Lekwa-Teemane, Kagisano-Molopo, Greater Taung and Mamusa Local Municipalities—received two water trucks to strengthen their capacity to respond to water supply challenges. Meanwhile, Naledi Local Municipality will instead be receiving a compactor truck and a tipper truck in the next couple of months.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Councillor Maje described the initiative as a significant milestone in the district municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve access to reliable water services. He said the provision of the trucks forms part of enhancing the ability of municipalities to deliver water more efficiently to communities. According to the Executive Mayor, the trucks were not procured by the District Municipality, but are a donation from National Treasury to the District.

The district municipality believes the additional water trucks will improve emergency water distribution and strengthen service delivery, particularly in areas that continue to experience water shortages.

The handover underscores the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality’s commitment to working with local municipalities to provide sustainable water solutions and improve the quality of life for residents across the district.
