SANRAL Partially Reopens N14 Between Kuruman and Vryburg for Light Vehicles

VRYBURG/KURUMAN – The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) has announced the partial reopening of the N14 national road between Kuruman and Vryburg, providing temporary relief to motorists following recent flooding that led to the closure of the route.

According to SANRAL, the road was reopened on Friday, 19 June 2026, but is currently restricted to light motor vehicles only while assessments continue to determine the full extent of flood-related damage.

Motorists travelling on the route have been urged to exercise extreme caution, as a thin layer of water remains on certain sections of the road. A temporary speed limit of 60 km/h has been implemented, and warning signs have been erected along the affected areas.

SANRAL Provincial Head for North West, Mirriam Ramoba, said the restricted reopening will remain in place while technical investigations and material testing are completed.

Heavy motor vehicles are not permitted to use the route at this stage and are advised to continue using alternative routes via the N18, N12 and R31.

The roads agency warned that any unauthorised use of the road contrary to the current restrictions will be regarded as a violation of traffic regulations.

SANRAL also thanked road users, freight operators and local communities for their patience and cooperation during the prolonged closure, adding that efforts are continuing to restore full access to the route as soon as it is safe to do so.

The reopening comes as welcome news for residents, businesses and travellers who rely on the N14 as a key transport link between the North West and Northern Cape provinces.
