Commuters in Vryburg may soon see an end to confusion over taxi fares after the Naledi Local Long Distance Taxi Association (NALLDTA) and the Naledi Municipality Taxi Association (NAMTA) held a meeting on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, to discuss recent fare adjustments.

The meeting, which focused on concerns raised by commuters following differing fare increases on certain routes, was described by both associations as constructive and successful.

Speaking during a brief media briefing after the meeting, Chairpersons of the two associations announced that they had agreed in principle to implement a single common taxi price of commuting. According to NALLDTA chairperson, Mr. P. Matlhola, both associations are to finalise a date for the implementation of the agreed fare once all outstanding processes have been concluded and a price is agreed upon.

The move comes after confusion arose among commuters travelling on the Huhudi and Colourblock (Extensions 25 and 28) routes, where different fares were being charged by the two associations.

Both NALLDTA and NAMTA also took the opportunity to apologise to commuters and community members for the uncertainty and disagreements that followed the recent fare adjustments. “We as taxi operators are nothing without community we serve” said, NAMTA Chairperson, Mr. J. M. Machogo. He also encouraged commuters to approach the association’s offices if any concerns arise , or if there are any clarity seeking questions on this matter or any other matter. 

The associations acknowledged the inconvenience caused and committed themselves to improving communication with the public going forward. They further emphasised the importance of cooperation within the local taxi industry to ensure reliable and affordable transport services for residents.

Commuters are expected to be informed of the final agreed fare and implementation date once discussions between the two associations have been concluded.

In the meantime, the taxi fare will remain at R15 until both NAMTA and NALLDTA announces the new price which will take effect from Monday, 08 June 2026.
