Young Cancer Advocate Sintesh Lala (31) Dies After Brave Battle with Rectal Cancer

The non-profit organisation Heal Better has paid tribute to 31-year-old Sintesh Lala, from Vryburg, who passed away following a long and courageous battle with stage 3 rectal cancer.

Lala, described as a resilient and determined young man, spent the final years of his life not only fighting the disease but also raising awareness about the realities of cancer and the challenges faced by patients in accessing timely treatment.

Diagnosed in March 2023 with an aggressive tumour that blocked most of his rectum, Lala endured extensive chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple medical complications. Despite periods of improvement, his condition deteriorated over time, with the tumour regrowing and his health steadily declining.

Throughout his illness, Lala openly shared his journey, detailing the physical and emotional toll of the disease. He spoke about severe pain, repeated blood transfusions, extreme weight loss, and prolonged hospitalisations, while also highlighting delays in accessing critical surgery due to capacity constraints in public healthcare facilities.

Despite these challenges, those close to him say his spirit remained unbroken.

Heal Better, which supported Lala during his illness, described their relationship as more than just counselling, calling it a “collaborative journey” marked by shared strength, vulnerability, and hope.

“Thank you for allowing us to walk this journey with you,” the organisation said in a tribute. “Your courage and determination will never be forgotten.”

Lala is remembered not only for his bravery in the face of immense suffering but also for his commitment to helping others understand and confront cancer. His story has left a lasting impact on those who followed his journey and those working in patient support and advocacy.

As tributes continue to pour in, he is being honoured as a symbol of courage, resilience, and the human spirit’s refusal to give up, even in the most difficult circumstances.

Sintesh was buried in accordance to his Islam religion, according to Heal Better, four days ago.
