From Addiction tot Hoop: Colridge Revival Inspires

COLRIDGE – What began under threatening skies turned into a powerful evening of worship and testimony as residents of Colridge and nearby sections  gathered for the “Vryburg for Jesus Revival” open-air service on Sunday, 15 February 2026.

Hosted by the Just for Today (J4T) Substance Abuse Support Group, the outreach brought together community members of all ages for a programme of praise, worship and life-changing testimonies. Despite earlier concerns that rain might disrupt proceedings, organisers described the turnout as overwhelming, with many residents braving the weather to stand united in faith.

The programme featured worship, prayer and spoken word, with Roma Steve serving as master of ceremonies. Testimonies were shared by Cheslin Rygaart, Rowan Cooper, Laurel Olivier and Romario Abdullah, before Minister Brian Minnie delivered the main message.

A central theme of the evening was hope and restoration, particularly for young people battling addiction, depression and personal struggles. Several speakers shared personal accounts of transformation and recovery, encouraging others not to be ashamed to seek help.

One testimony that resonated deeply with attendees was that of Laurel Olivier, who spoke about overcoming dark periods marked by suicidal thoughts, drug addiction and depression. His message of renewal and purpose drew strong emotional responses from the crowd.

Cheslin Rygaart and Rowan Cooper also shared their journeys of recovery and spiritual transformation, urging young people to remain steadfast and hopeful. Romario Abdullah testified about faith and perseverance, reinforcing the message that change is possible.

Minister Minnie’s sermon, centred on leaving the past behind and embracing a new path, called on community members to unite and build hope together. Organisers described the revival as the beginning of a broader mission to create lasting impact in Colridge and Vryburg at large.

The event forms part of ongoing faith-based initiatives aimed at supporting individuals facing substance abuse and other social challenges. Organisers indicated that more community-focused programmes are planned in the near future.

As the crowd dispersed under clearing skies, the message of the evening remained clear: unity, faith and hope continue to draw the Colridge community together.
