Naledi Local Municipality’s Ward 2 celebrated a significant milestone with the official opening of the Broedesput Community Hall on May 24, 2024. The event marked the culmination of dedicated efforts to enhance local infrastructure and provide essential services to the Broedesput community. Keynote speakers included Mayor Cllr. C.J. Groep and outgoing NW SCOPA chairperson, Job Dliso.

Mayor Cllr. C.J. Groep highlighted the municipality’s unwavering commitment to community development. Reflecting on the journey, he acknowledged the pivotal role of former mayor Langa Modise, who initiated efforts to bring essential services to Broedesput, including engaging with Eskom to install high mast lights. The late Mayor Neo Schalk’s tenure also saw the construction of houses, further improving the community’s living standards.

“The opening of the Broedesput Community Hall is a true reflection of how committed Naledi Local Municipality is to servicing the community of Broedesput,” said Mayor Groep. “We have fulfilled the promise we made, completing this R6 million project without exceeding the budget.”

He called on the community to take ownership of the new facility and urged them to prevent vandalism. The mayor also invited the Department of Arts, Culture, Recreation, and Sport to support the hall’s activities, noting the abundance of local talent.

A significant highlight was the announcement that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) would use the hall as a voting station on May 29, making it more convenient for residents to vote close to home.

Hon. Job Dliso, chairperson of SCOPA at the NW Legislature, extended his gratitude to the councillors and the administration of Naledi Local Municipality for their transparency and cooperation during oversight visits since 2019. “We are proud,” Dliso remarked, emphasizing that the opening of the hall represents a significant achievement in the government’s sixth administration.

Dliso acknowledged the challenges faced during the project, including the termination of a contractor’s agreement and the subsequent appointment of a new contractor. He commended the Project Management Unit (PMU) and Acting Technical Services Director, Ms. Divhani Munyai, for their perseverance and dedication.

The celebration of the Broedesput Community Hall’s opening signifies a new chapter for the local community, promising enhanced social and cultural opportunities. As the municipality continues to focus on development and service delivery, the community hall stands as a testament to their commitment and collaborative efforts.
