A R6-Million Modern High-Tech Library Opens For Boikhutso Community

The department of Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs (CATA), in the North West Province, is expected to, today, 03 May 2019, officially open a modern library in Boikhutso, a township in Lichtenburg. MEC Ontlametse Mochware of the Department is expected to cut the ribbon.

According to the Department, CATA, this is their continued effort to empower citizens especially the youth, women and children of Boikhutso in Ditsobotla Local Municipality, as well as the Province’s drive to deliver quality Libraries to local communities around the Province.

The Boikhutso Library is said to feature Public Internet Access (PIA) for locals to surf for research and other educational purposes. Another key feature is the facilitation of reading for the blind, through Braille capability.

Boikhutso library building will accommodate the library that was established in a small room in the community hall in the 1980s as one of the former “Bantu Dienste”libraries of the former Transvaal Provincial Administration.

MEC Mochware said her department sought to increase the citizen’s access to information and redressing the imbalances of the past. “Through libraries, we want to make sure that every citizen has free and equal access to information regardless of their social status,” said MEC Mochware. “Education and access to information are critical in our quest to shift the frontiers of poverty for our communities.” Explained Mochwari .

The R6-million construction project will also provide toy library service that supports programmes for Early Childhood Development.
