The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) has embarked on a verification process aimed at addressing the non-payment of stipends for participants in the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). The initiative comes in response to reports highlighting delays in stipend payments to EPWP workers across various municipalities.
Under the directive of Minister Barbara Creecy, senior management within the DFFE will oversee the verification process, which is slated to take place over the next two weeks. During this period, participants who have not received their stipends are urged to engage with the DFFE’s Local Government Support officials stationed in their respective municipalities.

The verification process will involve a thorough examination of payment information, including participants’ identification documents, banking details, and timesheets. The objective is to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate and timely payment to all eligible participants.
Minister Creecy emphasized the importance of expediting the verification process to address the grievances of EPWP workers who have dedicated their time and energy to the department’s initiatives. She underscored the department’s commitment to rectifying payment delays and ensuring that participants receive the compensation they rightfully deserve for their services.
Once the verification process is completed, senior management will provide a comprehensive report to Minister Creecy, detailing the findings and outlining steps taken to rectify any outstanding issues. This proactive approach aims to restore confidence among EPWP participants and reaffirm the department’s commitment to fair and transparent payment processes.
As the verification process unfolds, the DFFE remains dedicated to supporting municipalities nationwide through the Extended Public Works Programme, with a focus on job creation and environmental conservation efforts.
For further information on the verification process and assistance with stipend payments, EPWP participants are encouraged to reach out to the DFFE’s Local Government Support officials in their respective municipalities.
