The Department of Health in the North West Province has reported an increase of 84 new COVID19 positive cases in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number if confirmed positive cases to 271 in the province. Out of the 84 new cases, 74 are cases that have been reallocated to the North West Province from Gauteng Province.

This is the first large number of reallocation of cases the province has experienced. The Provincial Department has, with previous related incidents, explained the realities of such allocation and reallocation of cases. According to the department, allocation and verification of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the North West Province is an ongoing process. The Department of Health is said to continuously allocate cases after verification to a specific and appropriate location within a particular municipality.

73 of the 74 reallocated cases have been allocated to the Bojanala Platinum District, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID19 cases in that district to 160. Towards the end of last week, the district showed a great posture in their fight again the coronavirus. This was as the daily reported cases there seemed to be stabilizing.

The Bojanala Platinum District has the most active COVID19 positive cases, at 126. Followed by Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District with 62 active cases. Dr Kenneth Kaunda District now has a better looking posture as far as their recovery rate Is concerned. The district now has a over 30% recovery rate and the highest across the whole province.

Nationally, Tuesday, 02 June 2020, Minister of Health Dr. Zweli Mkhize announced 1455 new COVID19 positive cases in South Africa. The country now has a total of 35 812 cases. “Regrettably, we report 50 more COVID-19 related deaths- this brings the total national deaths to 755.” said the Minister. The North West Province only has least one fatality. However, on Monday, 01 June 2020, the Department of Health in the North West Province Confirmed that the number of COVID19 positive patients in hospital stands at 58.
