According to the department of health in the North West Province, Rustenburg has nine of the 19 confirmed Coronavirus cases in the North West province. The majority of the confirmed cases are in the mentioned settlements. Rustenburg falls under the Bojanala Platinum District. This district has earlier on became the epicenter of the Coronavirus in the North West Province. North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha has urged the people of Geelhoud Park and Tlhabane in Rustenburg to come out in their numbers to be screened and tested for Covid-19. These are the Department’s effort for comprehensive contact tracing in the district. Geelhoud park and Tlhabane have been identified as a focus area in these efforts. The silver lining, however , remains that 3 people who were announced as recovered are all from the Bojanala Platinum

The Province launched a mass screening, testing and contact tracing in Motswedi village, Zeerust on Monday, 06 April. This follows an announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa on the roll-out of the large-scale screening, testing, contact tracing and medical management programme. According to Statistics South Africa’s Mid-year population estimates for South Africa by Provinces of 2019, the North West Province is said to have 4 027 160 people in its population. Of that total, 270 713 people were screened during the Provincial Crusade. This is 7% of the population covered in a week, and from that percentage, 23 people have been referred for testing, of which 15 is in Bojanala. “We are calling for people especially those in the two settlements to all come out in their numbers for screening and those that show symptoms be referred for testing. This will help to curb further transmission, as a result of not knowing your status,” Sambatha said.
