On Friday, 29 March 2019 to a 30-year-old murder accused, Sabata Shadrack Mani was sentenced to 35 years imprisonment. The sentence was handed down by the Taung Magistrates’ Court and received great acceptance but the police in the North West Province.

Mani’s sentence emanates from an incident in which he strangled his girfriend, Katlego Vallerie Zethi (28) and her two-year-old daughter, Nomthanzo Qhawekazi Zethi. The incident occurred two years ago (2018), between August and October.

The court heard that after killing the pair, the accused left them for days without reporting the incident.

According to Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, on Tuesday, 8 November 2018, Mani finally handed himself to the police in Taung and confessed that he had killed the victims. The accused took the police to the victims’ house where he pointed out the two decomposed bodies. He was arrested for two counts of murder and never revealed the motive of the incident.
