NORTH WEST-Residents of the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District are being urged to collect their identity documents from the Department of Home Affairs, with 3,807 uncollected IDs currently awaiting collection.

The appeal comes as the Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (PROVJOINTS) continues to support the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) during the second voter registration weekend across the North West Province.

According to PROVJOINTS, a valid South African identity document is required to register as a voter and to cast a ballot during elections.

Province-wide, 34,703 identity documents remain uncollected. The breakdown by district is as follows:

• Bojanala Platinum District: 13,769

• Dr Kenneth Kaunda District: 8,702

• Ngaka Modiri Molema District: 8,425

• Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District: 3,807

Authorities are encouraging residents who previously applied for identity documents to visit their nearest Home Affairs office and collect them as soon as possible to avoid delays when registering to vote or accessing other government services.

PROVJOINTS has also assured residents that security measures remain in place across the province to ensure a safe and peaceful voter registration process, allowing eligible citizens to exercise their democratic rights freely.
