Taung – Former Greater Taung Local Municipality Mayor and Ward 11 councillor, Tumisang “Daddy” Gaoraelwe, has officially joined the Patriotic Alliance (PA), marking a significant political development in the district.
The announcement was made on social media on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, where Gaoraelwe described his move as a “revolutionary and conscious decision.” He said he had chosen to align himself with a political party that seeks to advance and improve the lives of South Africans.
As part of his new role, Gaoraelwe has been appointed as the Patriotic Alliance’s Campaign Manager for the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District. He will form part of the party’s campaign team, focusing on membership recruitment and strengthening the PA’s presence across the district.

Patriotic Alliance Deputy President Kenny Kunene welcomed Gaoraelwe to the party, saying his experience in local government and politics would make a valuable contribution to the work the PA is doing.
The development comes as political parties continue positioning themselves ahead of future elections, with the Patriotic Alliance seeking to expand its footprint in the North West Province.
The Vryburg Independent Post Team (The VIP Team) has approached the ANC in the North West for comment on Gaoraelwe’s departure from the party and will publish its response once received.
