Bronkhorstspruit — 3 Sept 2025: A 53-year-old deputy principal from Bronkhorstspruit Primary School appeared in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on three counts of rape involving an 8-year-old learner, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed.

According to NPA regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the offences were allegedly committed on the school premises during school hours on three separate occasions between June 2024 and August 2025. The matter came to light when the child’s mother noticed her daughter walking with difficulty; after questioning, the child disclosed the alleged assaults. The mother reported the case to police, and the accused was arrested on 1 September 2025.

The case was postponed to 11 September 2025 for a formal bail application. The State intends to oppose bail.

The accused has not yet pleaded and is presumed innocent until proven guilty. To protect the identity of the child, her name and any identifying details are being withheld.
