On Tuesday, 31 March 2020, the South African Minister of Health Dr. Zweli Mkhize confirmed that the total number of confirmed COVID19 cases now are 1353. This marked 27 more new cases as compared to yesterday’s, 30 March 2020, number of 1326 as announced by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Minister also confirmed 2 new Coronavirus cases in the North West Province. This brings the Provincial total to 8 cases. The Vryburg Independent Post (The V.I.P) has noted that the Province as well as the Northern Cape Province are still at low when it comes to the number of confirmed positive cases. We, The VIP, put it to the North West Province Department of Health, and according to the Provincial Health Spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, “The North West Province is low on cases because we do not recieve many international travelers. If you look at Provinces with high number of cases like Gauteng, KZN and Western Cape you realise those provinces receive many international travelers.”
Lekgethwane also further elaborated that the Province is doing everything possible to make sure there is no sudden spike in cases. “The National lockdown is specifically meant for that. We however do not dismiss possibility of increase in cases because there are a number of people still awaiting test results.” Said Lekgethwane.

Account to the Minister of Health, the number of deaths from Coronavirus is now up by 2 people… making it 5 that have now dead from it. The North West Province is however not included in this number.
