Community and Police Save Abandoned Newborn Baby in Itsoseng

ITSOSENG – A newborn baby is recovering in hospital after being rescued by community members and police in Bodibe Village, Kgomola Section, near Itsoseng.

According to information released by the Office of the District Commissioner: Ngaka Modiri Molema District, the baby was discovered on Saturday, 30 May 2026, at approximately 09:00 after a six-year-old child alerted her grandmother to what she believed was a “crying doll” inside a chicken coop.

The grandmother investigated and was shocked to find a newborn baby abandoned in a bucket in her yard. She immediately called for help from neighbours, who assisted in contacting the Itsoseng police.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and social workers were called to the scene, and the baby was transported to hospital for medical treatment and care.

Police have since launched an investigation and are appealing to members of the public for assistance in locating the child’s mother or anyone with information that may assist the investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Warrant Officer Albanos Thabiso Molefe of the Lichtenburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit on 060 967 2276, their nearest police station, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
