DA WELCOMES RESIGNATION

Mafikeng, August 26, 2024 – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has welcomed the resignation of Hon. Tshepo Khosa from his position as Deputy Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature (NWPL), effective August 23, 2024. Khosa’s resignation comes in the wake of serious allegations that he falsified his matric results to meet the requirements for his position.
The resignation, although not explicitly explained in Khosa’s letter, has been linked to the growing controversy surrounding the authenticity of his educational qualifications. The African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in the province, mandates a minimum of a matric certificate for members holding executive roles. Allegations that Khosa may have misrepresented his qualifications have raised significant concerns about the integrity of the legislative process.

DA spokesperson on the North West Provincial Legislature, Hendriëtte van Huyssteen, issued a statement expressing the party’s relief over Khosa’s decision to step down, but also emphasized the importance of pursuing a full investigation into the matter. “Such actions, if proven true, undermine the integrity of the legislative process and the trust of the public,” van Huyssteen said.

The DA has committed to pushing for a comprehensive investigation through both legislative and criminal channels to uncover the truth behind the allegations. Van Huyssteen highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating that if Khosa did indeed falsify his matric results, it would represent a severe breach of ethical standards. In such a case, the DA believes that Khosa should not only resign from his role as Deputy Speaker but also from the NWPL altogether.
For many students and graduates in the North West who have worked tirelessly to achieve their matric certificates, the allegations against Khosa are particularly disheartening. “These individuals have faced numerous challenges to achieve their educational milestones, and any attempt to undermine this process through fraudulent means is a significant insult to their hard work and dedication,” van Huyssteen remarked.
The DA reiterated its dedication to maintaining high standards of conduct within legislative institutions. The party called for the investigation into Khosa’s qualifications to be conducted with the utmost rigor and transparency, emphasizing the importance of restoring public trust in the democratic process.
While Khosa’s resignation is seen as a necessary first step, the DA insists that it is crucial to ensure that the investigation leaves no stone unturned. The party has vowed to continue its efforts to uphold ethical governance and protect the integrity of democratic institutions in the North West and beyond.
As the investigation unfolds, all eyes will be on the outcomes, which could have significant implications for the NWPL and the broader political landscape in the province.
