NW Commemorates World Food Day

MEC Desbo Mohono of Agriculture and Rural Development in the North West Province on Friday, 11 October 2019 led the annual provincial World Food Day commemoration in Ntswana Le Metsing, Magong Village outside Rustenburg town.

On the day, local beneficiaries received supplies and training to produce their own food; MEC Mohono also planted vegetable gardens, handover production inputs for crop production and outline her department’s programme of action geared at eradicating hunger.

Held yearly on the 16th of October, World Food Day is a day of action dedicated to tackling global hunger. This day reaffirms that, food should become a human right for all, and that everyone has the right to access safe and nutritious food that is consistent with the right to adequate food and the fundamental right of everyone to be free from hunger.

With the slow international economic growth in general and in South Africa in particular combined with the recent drought, the focus this year will be on sustainable projects delivered by the department as well as encouraging residents to start planting on fields that are lying fallow in order to increase food production to fight the scourge of poverty, hunger and malnutrition amongst communities.

The 2019 provincial world food day event will be celebrated under the theme “Our Actions are our Future. Healthy Diets for #Zero Hunger World”.
